What’s the full name of your label? Which city is the home of your label? Do you run any sub-labels?
The full name of our label is Conspiracy Records. We are based in Antwerp, Belgium. We used to run a sublabel called Subdeviant Recordings. We did four releases and then decided Conspiracy as itself should be eclectic enough to do whatever we like, without having to run another label. We also did Hydrahead Europe for a while, with six releases that carry HHE catalog numbers.
Why did you choose that name? Which meaning do names of labels have for their work?
Because it’s us against them. Superficiality and mediocricity against substance.
When did you start the label? What where initial motivations, what the initial idea?
The label started in 1996. The initial idea was to help release records for friends in bands.
How many people do work for the label?
Three full timers plus freelance people who help out with promotion, graphic design, website, etc.
What criteria decide about whether you release a record or not?
We simply have to like it.
Vinyl, CD or MP3? And why?
All of them, because we sell music, thus we have to offer people the opportunity to choose the format they prefer. But we prefer vinyl.
Which record from your back-catalog represents the label best, aesthetically, ethically and musically?
I can’t name just one record, sorry.
